Turtle Tracks: A photographer's dream

Turtle Tracks: A photographer's dream

It was our pleasure to have Oliver Thompson on board for the 2013 Turtle Release Tour. The photographs speak for themselves. What a keen eye this photographer has for a good picture. Check out his website for beaut pics from Bare Sand Island and other iconic Darwin destinations.

Turtle Tracks: A photographer's dream

Turtles! A must see activitiy in Darwin! I was lucky enough to be there when they released of two turtles to what an adventure it turned out to be, I felt like Robinson Cursoe but educated as David Attinbugth in Turtle science and history. As the sun set seeing four Flatback Turtles making their way up the beach in the full moon, laying and then heading back down to the sea. The Bare Sand Island itself is full of amazing sea shells and you cant beat the feeling of sand between your toes watching the spectacular sunset then watching the moon rise over the ocean from pink to orange to crisp white……

Oliver and Henderson’s movements are being tracked as part of the Arafura and Timor Sea Turtle Tracking program. Their movements can be viewed here. Simply search for either Oliver (the Olive Ridley) or Henderson (the Flatback) in the left hand search engine.
