In search of Darwin Turtle, it was no romantic, steamy top end sunset cruise for Catherine Best. On our roughest Turtle Tracks journey for 2015, she joined us aboard the Snubfin to experience Charles Point’s wrath on her way to Bare Sand Island. And with literary pzazz, her reflections equated the journey to the challenges that the Bare Sand Island flatback hatchlings have on their journey to the sea.
There is always a sense of anticipation in arriving on Bare Sand Island after the last of the wet season storms have lashed the sand dunes. This year a not so stormy wet season meant that there was little change to the shape of the dunes that we last saw in October 2014.
As the clouds start to form and first rain hits the sand-dunes on Bare Sand Island, we know that our 2014 turtle tours have come to an end. And what a year it was, with memorable events and precious moments, some captured on camera and others not.
